In the Lutetian period, more than 41 million years ago, where Davron and Grignon now stand, the shores of the tropical sea covering the Paris Basin were home to a world-famous biodiversity, with more than 1,300 different species of fossilized shellfish and fish.
In the 17th century, the Château de Versailles was the quintessence of French art de vivre. The vineyard in the Paris region is the largest in France - but it disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century, after the phylloxera crisis
2017, the vineyard is reborn on the plain of Versailles, and in 2022 opens the winery of the La Bouche du Roi estate.
2024 - the exceptional vintages of La Voie Royale are offered, in the 2023 vintage.
The grapes destined for La Voie Royale come from the best plots, each just 20 ares in size, located on the Domaine's most chalky vein, the Lutétien highlands. These parcels have the particularity of being perfectly aligned with the tip of the Grand Canal and the Grande Perspective Royale in the park of the Château de Versailles.
La Voie Royale vinifies the best grapes from emblematic grape varieties: Chardonay, Chenin, Merlot and Pinot Noir.
These limited-volume cuvées benefit from the finest, longest maturation periods, from 12 to 18 months, in French oak barrels and sandstone clayers, allowing slow, gradual micro-oxygenation to give the wines a precise structure.
World-renowned oenologist Rodrigo Laytte, formerly of Château Margaux and ex-director of vineyards for the LVMH Group, works with his team to achieve the perfect gesture and selects the best barrels.
The barrels are made from French oak from the forests of
Nevers and Tronçais, blended by the best coopers.
The first vintage of La Voie Royale, 2023, shows the characteristics of wines with tension, with a good balance of freshness. La Voie Royale is receiving very positive ratings from expert tasters.
This confirms that the geographical limits of vineyards are moving northwards, and so are the great wines.
Limited quantities available from the end of October 2024. Pre-reservations open on October 10.
